Who are the owners of the hotel?


John and Elisabeth McTaggart, who got married in the hotel in July 1996!


Why did you move away from the ‘old hotel’?


During the pandemic we decided that an Exclusive Use type of property would be more attractive, with more folk choosing to have ‘staycations’ with family and friends.


What type of rooms do you have?


We have 1 single room, 3 twins, 7 doubles and 1 triple room (a king size and a single bed).

Do you have any rooms on the ground floor?


No.


Can we all eat together?


Yes. The Kelso Room is a flexible space where you can organise the tables and chairs the way you want.


Can we have a meal cooked for us?

 

Depending on availability. We use a local chef, Xen whose company, For Food Sake provides outside catering and private chef services.  


For Food Sake operate from the recently re-opened Cafe 16 on Shore Road, Aberdour..  


Chef Xen is a professional Chef with over 25 years’ experience in the industry. Chef Xen can prepare and cook a meal for you and your guests while you enjoy your Woodside experience.   

 

Once you have secured your stay, please contact For Food Sake directly who will provide you with menu options, pricing and recommendations for you to select from.  


They will do the shopping, preparation and service however linens, plates and cutlery will need to be provided (they have the plates and cutlery at The Woodside) and the table dressing will need to be arranged by you or your guests.  


Before the end of the service the team will clean down the equipment and the kitchen to the same level when they arrived.  


If there are any access or time restrictions, please advise beforehand. 


Is the Gin Palace open?


Yes. But it is in Scotland! We wouldn’t recommend al fresco reveling outwith Spring and Summer!


Are there good walks nearby? 


Yes. We are on the Fife Coastal Path.


Is bedding provided?


We bed linen and soap. Please bring your own toiletries and towels.


Do we bring our own drinks?


Yes.


Is the kitchen available for us to prepare our own food?


Yes. There is a 6 hob electric cooker with an oven, a microwave, two fridges and a freezer. There is an ample prep area too.


Is the pool table in the bar free?


Yes.


Are there TVs in all the rooms?


There are smart TVs in all the rooms.


Is the wifi free?


Yes.


How many free car parking spaces are there?


15.


Are there good places to eat nearby? 


Room With a View is a top class seafood restaurant, for that special occasion. Louie Brown’s in Dalgety Bay is popular too. The nearby Fife Retail Park has all the usuals; Frankie & Benny’s, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, KFC, Smashburger… 


Cafe 16 for breakfast, lunch or coffee.


The Aberdour Bistro for breakfast, lunch or coffee.


A pub?


The Foresters Arms is across the road. It sells cask beers and has sports channels.


Are there good takeaways nearby?


Yes. Post & Pantry does takeaways during the day. At night, nearby Burntisland has fish and chips, Chinese, Turkish kebab and burger outlets, who all deliver. Dalgety Bay has fish and chips, Chinese and Indian delivery options. Details of all of them are in the room packs.


Can we have food deliveries eg from Asda organised in advance?


Yes. Contact John. Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco and Waitrose all deliver to this area.


Are there local shops we could support for food?


Yes! We'd love if you could purchase food from local family owned businesses..

Is there a newspaper shop nearby?


Willie’s newsagents is two minutes away. We can have newspapers delivered.

The Purple Shop at the east end of the village is licensed and sells many fine products.


Can you be flexible about check in/out?


Notionally, it’s 4pm check in and 11am check out. We always try to be as flexible as possible.


How long does it take to get into Edinburgh?


Up till 6pm at night there are two Scotrail trains per hour into Edinburgh. The hotel is a five minute walk from Aberdour train station. The train takes about 35 minutes to get into Edinburgh Waverley and 30 mins to Haymarket. Trainline


Can you recommend a good taxi service from Edinburgh airport?

How accessible is the hotel?


Unfortunately we do not have a lift. We have nine rooms on the 1st floor and four rooms on the second. 

There are 22 steps to the first floor with a landing after 13 steps. There is a further 19 steps to the second floor, with a landing after 9 steps.
